Three jobs, and what they actually pay

We publish pay on every advert because not publishing it is a way of paying people differently for the same work. Everything below is the real rate, not a range with a ceiling nobody reaches.

Baker

£15.20 an hour, rising to £16.40 after six months

Type
Full time, permanent
Hours
05:00–13:00, five days including one weekend day

Working alongside Nadia on the morning bake. Shaping, boiling, baking, and keeping the cold room honest.

What you would do

  • Dividing, rolling and shaping by hand — about 400 rings a morning
  • Running the boil and the oven
  • Logging dough and cold room temperatures
  • Cleaning down properly, which takes as long as it takes

What we are after

  • Some bakery experience, though not necessarily with bagels
  • Being genuinely fine with a 4.30am alarm
  • Care about consistency more than flair

Front of house

£13.85 an hour plus a share of tips, which came to about £2.10 an hour last quarter

Type
Part time, permanent
Hours
3 or 4 shifts a week, 07:00–15:00

Serving, making coffee, and knowing the allergen sheet well enough to answer without checking.

What you would do

  • Taking orders and making the coffee
  • Answering allergen questions accurately — we will train you properly on this
  • Keeping the room and the counter right
  • Packing catering orders

What we are after

  • Liking people at seven in the morning
  • Being straight with customers when we have sold out
  • No hospitality experience needed. We will teach the rest.

Weekend kitchen assistant

£13.85 an hour plus tips

Type
Weekends, permanent
Hours
Saturday and Sunday, 07:30–15:30

Prep, plates, and the washing up. The job that makes every other job possible.

What you would do

  • Breakfast prep and plating
  • Keeping the pass moving
  • Washing up, and there is a lot of it

What we are after

  • Turning up
  • Working quickly without getting sloppy
  • That is genuinely it
How we hire

Five things we will hold ourselves to

  • We reply to every application, including the ones that are a no.
  • Interviews are a conversation and a paid trial shift, never an unpaid one.
  • Tips are pooled and split by hours worked. Nobody in management takes a share.
  • Rotas go out two weeks ahead and we do not change them without asking you.
  • You will be told what you are being paid before you are asked to interview.

Come in and ask for Tom

No form and no CV needed. Walk in and say which job you are after, or ring — we would rather meet you for five minutes than read a covering letter. Quietest just after two, which is the best time to catch someone.
