Accessibility

What we have done to this website, what the shop is actually like, and the parts we know are not good enough yet.

This website

It is built to meet WCAG 2.2 level AA. In practice that means every colour pairing has been measured rather than eyeballed, every interactive element has a visible focus ring, the whole site works from the keyboard, and every animation stops if your device asks for reduced motion.

Headings run in order, landmarks are marked up properly, images describe the food rather than saying "image", and the filter counts and form messages are announced to screen readers as they change.

  • Text contrast is at least 4.5:1 everywhere, and considerably more for body copy.
  • Nothing is conveyed by colour alone — the allergen tags carry text as well as a shape.
  • The menu filters, the mobile navigation and the map are all operable by keyboard.
  • Turning on "reduce motion" removes every transform on the site and leaves fades only.
  • The site works with JavaScript switched off.

Where we know it falls short

The Day Ring on the Visit page is a graphic. It is described in words for screen readers and the same hours appear as a plain table underneath, but the ring itself cannot be explored by keyboard.

We have no food photography yet, so several images are placeholders. They are described accurately, but they do not yet tell you what a dish looks like.

We have not tested with every combination of screen reader and browser. If you hit something broken, telling us is genuinely useful.

The shop itself

There is a level entrance from the street, with no step and no lip. The doorway is 90cm clear and there is 120cm between tables inside.

The accessible toilet has grab rails and a 150cm turning circle. Assistance dogs are welcome and there is a water bowl behind the counter.

Large-print and high-contrast menus are at the counter — ask, and nobody will make it awkward.

The room is hard-surfaced and gets loud between 8 and 10 on weekdays. It is quietest just after two. If noise is a problem, that is the time to come.
